Twickenham village

For many people the name Twickenham means rugby but this "lovely and placid town", as Charles Dickens called it, is home to so much more. On one of the most striking stretches of the River Thames there is so much to discover and explore- Marble Hill House with its grounds stretching down to the river; Strawberry Hill House- Horace Walpole's 18th century Gothic castle; the ancient foot ferry across to the National Trust's Ham House and gardens; the fascinating Eel Pie Island which in the 1960s was an early venue for the launch of the careers of The Rolling Stones, The Who, David Bowie and many others; and of course the international rugby stadium with its World Rugby Museum.

The town is also becoming a real "foodie" destination with the famous Sandy's fishmongers complemented by an excellent local bakery and greengrocers, a weekly Saturday farmers' market and now the renowned organic and bio-dynamic Laverstoke Park Farm Butchers. Surrounded by all this wonderful food we are able to offer our outstanding selection of wines, champagnes and spirits to complement your food choices. Whether it be a chilled white to enjoy with Sandy's oysters sitting on the riverbank, or a rich mature red to savour at home with your wild boar from Laverstoke we are here to help find the perfect match. Each weekend Awa will be choosing a favourite wine to open for you to try and David, who was an award winning chef before coming to Nicolas, will suggest a weekly recipe using the seasonal produce in the local shops.

So do make the time to visit Twickenham and come and see us to talk about food and our wines and what there is to see and do in the area. We will be updating our blog regularly with details of wine tastings we are organising and local events, but for the latest news call in when you are passing.

Enjoy the summer- David and Awa
