Château du Lort

Owned by the Castel family, boasts a superb vineyard with a truly rich variety of terroirs. After its acquisition in 1984, the estate underwent the first stage of modernisation and levelling. Since 2006, a wide-reaching programme of work has been undertaken to equip the property with the best possible means for growing, producing and storing wine. A magnificent tasting room has also been planned. This intense period of renewal already proved to be an asset for the 2004 vintage, which has benefited from completely redesigned labelling and packaging.
Out in the Open
The property stands in 50 hectares of grounds, of which 18.3 hectares are given over to vines. Several soil types are found: clay, limestone, sand and gravel all exist side by side, each making its own contribution to the complexity of the Château du Lort wines. The harvest is made up of 65% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc. At present, the vineyards have a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare, which, together with optimum leaf surface, guarantees the best possible ripeness.
The Inside Story
To do justice to the grape harvest, the winery itself has undergone complete modernisation, including the installation of the most up to date equipment and state-of-the-art technology. Housing 200 barrels of the finest oak, the barrel cellar allows he wine to reach its full, elegant potential in optimum conditions.

Determined to bring his wines “to the top”, he reveals his aim to go “even further” in developing the potential of this estate. A sensitive and hard-working man, he models his wines on his own personality – serious and refined.
